Shearers Foods to change hands next month
Shearer’s Foods, Inc. has been purchased by Wind Point Partners - a private equity firm from Chicago. Transaction on the agreement is expected to be complete in October.
As part of the deal, Wind Point and C.J Fraleigh have partnered together and Fraleigh will come on board as chief executive officer and chairman. Fraleigh brings 25 years of experience to the table and most recently served as CEO of Sara Lee North America.
Shearer’s headquarters is located just south of Akron, in Brewster, and is a manufacturer and distributer of snack foods in the Midwest, as well as throughout New England and Canada. The family-owned and operated business was founded in 1974 by Bob and Tom Shearer and their late parents. Bob will step down as CEO when Wind Point takes over and his wife, Melissa, will also bow down from her role as vice president of communications. It is unclear as yet whether Tom, who is currently in management, will stay on at the company.
When companies such as Shearer’s Foods, Inc. are sold and operations and management change hands, local print companies may be called upon to provide a variety of printing services to help the transition go smoothly. Business card printing and stationery printing are often necessary to reflect changes in ownership, management, and other operations of the company.
Shearer’s employs around 900 associates across the United States. Its five manufacturing plants are located in Brewster, Massillon, Oregon, Virginia, and Texas. The company’s snack products include pretzels, potato chips, pork rinds, whole grain chips, and tortilla chips.
