Art museum patrons gain creative space of their own
A new feature of the Akron Art Museum is its Live Creative Studio, where visitors can produce works of art by way of any number of media and techniques.
The museum’s recent promise to establish a permanent home for its public and education programs is fulfilled by the Live Creative Studio, according to CEO Mark Masuoka and Director John S. Knight. The museum first dipped its toe into the idea last summer with a temporary creative space, and has worked since then to finalize a permanent one.
The Rory and Dedee O’Neil Lobby is where interaction between guests and studio instructors can take place. The Mary S. and David C. Corbin Foundation Gallery is where hands-on exhibits are located, as well as a collection of works by artists from Ohio.
Museums frequently advertise what they have to offer through promotional products that tie into their exhibits, the most common and traditional being picture postcards.
The Live Creative Studio is open Tuesday to Friday, 11:00 am to 4:00 pm, during which time studio instructors will be available. Hands-on stations and the gallery will be open Saturday and Sunday, but the lobby workshop will not be open.
The Live Creation Studio, as well as the workspace and gallery, were designed to be kid-centric, although visitors of all ages are welcome. Located at 1 S. High St., The Akron Art Museum admission fee are $8 per student and $10 per adult.
