Annual Square Fest set for Akron

Akronites who enjoy music are looking forward to the city's upcoming Square Fest, set for Highland Square. According to an August 31, 2014 news item, the music festival is a day-long event that features continuous live music on three stages, as well as in five businesses in the area. There are literally dozens of bands scheduled to play.

Akron is blocking off the stretch of West Market Street from Casterton Avenue to Portage Path for the duration of the event. The Michael Weber Show leads off the day at 11 am on the main stage, and Shivering Timbers brings the day to a close with their performance, which starts at 7.45 pm. The main stage is located in the center of the area, and now faces south, since residents found last year's performers too loud, though they loved the music.

Other performers slated for the Main Stage include Maid Myriad, Nick Wilkinson, 11 After, Rooster Jones, Winslow, Zach and Acid Cats. They appear approximately one hour apart.

Some of the acts appearing in other locations include Rick Smith, a magician, who will perform at the Family Stage, near Portage Path; Group Keys and Kyle Magilavy at the Square Bar; and RiverFall, who will appear at the Highland Square Branch Library.

The event will be held September 6, and admission is free. Organizers could work with a flyer printing company to create handouts for visitors, so they know who is appearing and where.
