All aboard the Akron Polar Express Train Ride
Akron residents wanting to get into the holiday spirit can take a magical train journey to the North Pole.
The Polar Express Train Ride is resuming operations this season, marking its 27th year. The event is based on the 1985 book and 2004 animated movie The Polar Express, which starred Tom Hanks.
Passengers on the train are treated to music from the movie’s soundtrack, as well as readings from the book version, written by Chris Van Allsburg.
The classic holiday tale follows the adventures of a young boy who does not believe in Santa Claus, and is whisked away on a surprise train ride to the North Pole with other children, all wearing pajamas.
In the Akron version of the tale, passengers arrive at an imaginary North Pole and are greeted by elves who are busily making gifts for children for Christmas Day. Santa also makes an appearance, and passengers can get their photo taken with jolly old Saint Nick. Print shops can help in events such as this one with customized signage and banner printing.
The Polar Express Train Ride starts Friday, November 6 and runs until Sunday, December 20. The train stations are located at the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad/Akron Northside Station at 27 Ridge Street. The train departs at 7:00 pm and returns at 8:30 pm.
The trains will not operate on November 11 for Veterans Day, nor on November 25-26 for Thanksgiving.
