Akron welcomes Napoleon Dynamite cast
Akron fans of the cult classic movie “Napoleon Dynamite” will get to see some of the characters in real life at an upcoming show.
The Akron event will feature a showing of the movie, followed by a moderated discussion with three of the film’s stars – Jon Gries (Uncle Rico), Efren Ramirez (Pedro) and Jon Heder (Napoleon Dynamite).
The movie was made in 2004 and tells the story of an awkward teen with an unusual name, Napoleon Dynamite, who helps a fellow student become class president.
The movie was a low-budget comedy when it was made, but exploded into mainstream culture as it poignantly depicted teen life, including bullying, family troubles at home, and the journey of self-awareness and acceptance. It also takes a humorous look at life in small-town America.
Tickets are between $25 to $49. Those who bought tickets for the previous date can use their tickets for the new date. There is also a VIP package available as well, where fans get a signed poster, the best seats in the house and are invited to meet the actors backstage.
Theatres hosting shows such as this can use local print shops for programs and in-theatre signage, not to mention flyers advertising the event.
Napoleon Dynamite is scheduled for Saturday, January 16 at 7:30 pm at the Akon Civic Theatre, 182 S. Main Street.
