Akron summer camp to help budding Broadway stars

Next month, Phoenix Performing Arts will host the Broadway Bound Theatre Camp, allowing Akron area youth to experience what it is like to train like a professional Broadway performer.

Phoenix Performing Arts is a non-profit that provides accessible and inclusive performing arts opportunities for Northeast Ohio youth. It frequently hosts arts educational programs and entertainment in the form of classes and workshops, school assembly programs, live performances, and vocal entertainment. July’s summer camp is one of these programs, offering a unique opportunity for kids to improve their performing skills in a warm, constructive environment.

The camp is designed for kids ages 11 to 18 and will be Broadway-themed, featuring songs from popular musicals such as Hamilton, Legally Blond, and Shrek the Musical. Students will be trained in acting/improv technique, dance, and individual and group vocals. The attendees will then showcase their skills at the Akron Arts Expo at Hardesty Park. All backgrounds and skill levels are welcomed to attend, although those with some experience may find it easier to keep up with the pace of the classes.

Organizers of events featuring live performances often invest in brochure printing to create advertising materials to drum up interest.

The Broadway camp is scheduled for July 11 through July 23. Phoenix Performing Arts is located on 444 North Hawkins Street. Camp fees are $200 per student.
