Akron names new police chief
Kenneth Ball, who acted as deputy police chief for over two years, and then served as interim chief, was formally named as Akron's new police chief recently.
He is the 16th law enforcement officer to hold the post, and was appointed by Mayor Dan Horrigan in a recent ceremony at Stubbs Justice Center.
Horrigan said he had been looking for an individual with integrity who could help improve relations between the department and residents of Akron. The mayor believes Ball is the perfect person for the job, since he understands the problems, as well as the opportunities, facing both the city as a whole and the police specifically. Horrigan went on to say he believed Chief Ball will put policies in place to improve the way the police serve the public. He revealed it was especially important for the next chief to come from within the department.
Ball has been in law enforcement in Akron for 26 years. Within six years, he was promoted to the rank of sergeant. In 2000, he was promoted to lieutenant and in 2006, to captain. Finally, in 2015, he was promoted to major.
Ball was a Police Executive Leadership College graduate in 2001, and an FBI National Academy graduate in 2013.
A major development such as this is important to an entire community, so officials might consider working with a postcard printing company to create a mailer for residents.
