What's Happening in Akron, OH…

Akron begins month with art and craft bonanza

Akron and area residents who are looking for unusual items should plan to visit the Ohio Mart taking place at Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens.

Now in its 48th year, the event features craftspeople and artisans with intriguing wares for sale, as well as activities and entertainment.

It features more than 120 craftspeople and artisans who will have a range of items for sale, including jewelry, handmade furniture, sculpture, textiles, ceramics, and other items that will make suitable holiday gifts. Vintage items, textiles, and antiques will be available from Vintage Finds and Curious Goods.

Children will be able to enjoy activities in a Playgarden, which is new this year. Also designed for kids are an exhibit entitled ‘Homes of Nature’ and a Children's Tent. Ohio Mart organizers could work with a banner printing company to create colorful outdoor banners to welcome visitors to the event.

Ohio Mart gets underway at 10:00 am today and continues until this Sunday, and will be open from 10:00 am and 5:00 pm each day, apart from Sunday when it ends at 4:00 pm. Admission is $9 for adults and $2 for young people. Those who wish to take a self-guided tour of the Manor House and its grounds and landscaped gardens, which are an Akron landmark, may do so for an additional $6. Organizers expect approximately 15,000 people to attend the four-day festival.
