A program is being launched by the village of Valley Stream to help owners of small businesses to rehabilitate their store fronts.
Funding will be available for businesses along Rockaway Avenue between Merrick Avenue and Sunrise Highway. The funding will cover 80% of the cost of new awnings, lights, and Signs. The source of the funding will be through the Nassau County office of Community Development. More information about such programs and their application process can be provided with brochure printing.
Ed Fare, mayor of Valley Stream, said that this funding program will help local businesses to reinvest in their businesses and will continue the revitalization of the business district along Rockaway Avenue. President of the Valley Stream Chamber of Commerce, Sasan Shavanson, said that having a fresh look to the facades and signs of businesses in Valley Stream can keep existing customers patronizing the brick-and-mortar stores and help to attract new customers.
Placemaking director for Vision Long Island, Elissa Kyle, said the beautification of a downtown area is about more than just esthetics, noting that it also includes creating an inviting environment to which people are attracted. Kyle added that this program will create a place along Rockaway Avenue where shoppers will want to come and stay for a while, as the more time they spend in one place, the more likely they are to spend money.
