Valley Stream teachers attend workshop as part of strategic plan

Ray McNulty, president of the Successful Practices Network (SPN) and former Commissioner of Education of the state of Vermont, recently led a training session for teachers from each of the three schools in the Valley Stream 24 School District.

This workshop plays an important role in the Vision 2030 initiative of the district, of which the goal is to foster a 21st-Century, forward-thinking learning environment that provides students with the needed skills for the future. Attendees at the session worked with McNulty to identify foundational cornerstones, refine and explore the Vision 2030 statement, and begin brainstorming pilots for innovative teaching strategies.

Vision 2030’s mission statement aspires that by 2030, schools in the district will be lively learning environments where educators develop, design, and cultivate learning that supports the holistic growth of every child, so that they can thrive as digitally literate, emotionally intelligent, and innovative individuals.

Dr. Unal Karakas, superintendent of schools, said that as Vision 2030 is implemented and progress is made towards the future of the district, it is exciting to have its teachers enriching and actively contributing to its goals. He added that the Board of Education spent a great deal of time over the summer shaping the vision, and now the administrators and teachers will be implementing it with pilot programs.
