The Japanese Tea House at the Village Green in Valley Stream, a landmark of the community, has recently been restored and is now open to the public.
The Tea House is now in its original condition and the surrounding gardens have been revitalized. These gardens, now called the “Tranquility Garden,” are a place where visitors and residents can go to reflect, relax, and unwind in the beauty of nature. The benefits of such places and their culture and history can be promoted through flyer printing.
Among the renovations that were undertaken were installing sprinkler systems, replanting flowers that better represent a Japanese garden, and repainting the Tea House in colors that are more traditional. Supervisor of the parks department of the village, William Hartig, said that the fountain which had been used as a planter for 40 years and was filled with dirt was restored to its original functionality.
Hartig added that everyone working on the project decided to return the Tea House to its original state and to make it a showpiece again. He said it can now be a destination for relaxation and enjoyment rather than a place that people just walk by. The village is also planning to sell memorial pavers that will be place in the Tranquility Garden in the fall.
