Dyslexia is a learning disability that can make it more difficult for an individual to read and decipher letters than the average person, and Literacy Nassau has planned an activity near Valley Stream that it hopes will raise both funding and awareness about this neurological condition.
The organizers have made plans to host the very first Dyslexia Dash in the area, and they are hoping that it will be a big success. The participants can choose to challenge themselves and run the course, or they can opt to stroll along at a slower pace, enjoying the crisp air of an autumn afternoon.
To help make sure the runners are ready to hit the road, the pre-race warm up and stretching session will be led by a professional, and a pro will also be announcing the race results. Once the physical part of the day is over, the runners and walkers will be welcome to stay and enjoy a free lunch and celebrate the grand opening of the county’s new learning center. This facility will offer donation-based tutoring to children and youth with learning disabilities.
An event like this can offer a great way to raise both awareness and funding at the same time. Decorations, marketing materials, and other large sized items for this type of function can be provided by a local banner printing company.
This opportunity to enjoy a day of family fun while supporting education in the community will be hitting to pavement on November 4. Its location will be Eisenhower Park in Wantagh.
