Rochester outing to observe woodcocks in the wild
Woodcocks are a small and shy species of bird, and a Rochester area outing will hope to observe them engaging in courtship behavior at a Rochester area site.
These birds, which are camouflaged, quiet and not often seen, tend to become more active in the spring, which is their mating season. The excursion will visit Owl Woods at Braddock Bay Wildlife Management Area in Greece, and it will be an evening event.
The participants will be on the lookout for woodcocks engaging in their courtship flight, which will be noisy activities. Everyone is advised to bring their camera so they can take some photos of the spectacle, and as the trail may be wet and muddy, so sturdy boots or shoes and dressing in layers is recommended. Flashlights will also be helpful. The registrants will meet up in the parking lot across from the location before they head out.
This opportunity to observe woodcocks in the wild has been organized by Rochester Birding Association, and everyone who is interested is encouraged to sign up when the registration system opens. Flyer printing is a marketing option for small organized events.
Those who sign up for the Woodcock Courtship Flight at Owl Woods excursion are asked to be on site at the meeting point by 7:00 pm on April 9. The function is scheduled to run until 9:00 pm.
