Rochester birding excursion to visit local park

Many small birds pass through Rochester on their way south, and this provides beginner birders with an opportunity to get their feet wet.

The Rochester Birding Association has organized an outing to Ontario Beach Park, and binoculars and spotting scopes are highly recommended. The group will visit both Charlotte Beach and Turning Point Park, and it was noted that Charlotte Beach may be accessible to those who require the use of a wheelchair.

The organizers of the excursion noted that the species that the participants can expect to see include common types such as sparrows and warblers, and gulls and shorebirds may also be seen. As it will be the start of the fall migration period, birds that are just passing through may be spotted. In response to the covid pandemic, advance registration is mandatory, as the number of registrants will be limited to no more than 20 individuals and social distancing will be strongly encouraged.

An outing like this may be enjoyed by almost any birder, no matter what their level of experience may be. Stationery printers can be called upon to supply custom designed field guides, species tally sheets and other materials for the day.

The Rochester Birding Association will be hosting this end of summer birding trip on September 4th. Those who register are asked to meet at Ontario Beach Park by 8:00 am.
