Photography still in the picture for December

The ‘Innovation in the Imaging Capital’ exhibition at George Eastman House, which has been on display since September, is still viewable for another month for those yet to see it.

The show highlights the major contributions made by those in the city of Rochester to the history of imaging, and how it has been carried on and advanced by key players in the industry. One section of the exhibition focuses on products for the consumer.

The exhibit features artifacts from the museum's permanent collection and some from other sources. Items on display include the first ever digital camera, which was patented by the George Eastman Company. Attendees can also see aerial cameras that were used in World War I and II, a lunar orbiter, and such medical devices as x-ray machines.

Rochester graphics and printing companies often use photography in their products, so it is likely that this exhibit will attract their employees, who might be interested in the history behind the tools they use.

‘Innovation in the Imaging Capital’ is showing at the George Eastman House until January 1. Admission is $14 for adults, $12 for seniors, and $5 for students with ID. The museum is open Monday to Saturday from 10:00 am - 5:00 pm and on Sunday from 11:00 am - 5:00 pm. To learn more about this exhibition call 585-271-3361.
