The Memorial Art Gallery in Rochester is presenting the exhibit ‘Golden Legacy: Original Art from 65 Years of Golden Books’, which will run over the next few months.
It is a tribute to the Little Golden Books, which brought picture books to children all over the country. There are 57 original illustrations on view from the Random House archive feature works by such artists as Garth Williams, Mary Blair, and Richard Scarry.
There are several events happening in relation to the exhibition. On November 2, a conversation with Sidney Wilkins and Timothy J. Cosgriff will discuss Eloise Wilkins, who illustrated more than 50 Golden Books. The week after, Golden Books Family Day has a range of events planned, which includes art activities, tours of the exhibit, storytelling, music, and dance performances.
People from all over Rochester will likely want to attend this exhibit to remind them of their childhood and to introduce their children to these books. Local Print companies may have been asked to provide Flyers to advertise this likely-to-be popular event.
‘Golden Legacy’ is showing at the Memorial Art Gallery until January 4, 2015. The gallery is open Wednesday through Sunday from 11:00 am, with admission prices set at $12 for adults, $8 for seniors, and $5 for college students. The conservation with Sidney Wilkins is being held on November 2 at 2:00 pm, with Golden Books Family Day following on November 9 from 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm.
