Well-known author to be honored in New Rochelle

A new initiative is being launched in New Rochelle by Mayor Noam Bramson and the family of the author E.L. Doctorow, who lived in the city that was the inspiration for ‘Ragtime’, his best-known work.

The proposal is the Doctorow Legacy Initiative, which will sponsor a public work of art as well as a Heritage Award for his Broadview Avenue home and the creation of scholastic programs in his name.

A monument will also be erected in Huguenot Park, which is in the geographic center of New Rochelle and is close to Broadview Avenue. This monument is expected to promote literacy and reading in the community and become a place for people who admire Doctorow and his work.

The committee working on the initiative, which is composed of representatives from the City of New Rochelle, the New Rochelle Fund for Educational Excellence, the New Rochelle Council on the Arts, and Barbara Davis, City Historian, adds that it will inspire civic pride and provide a model to which young people can aspire. The committee may think about investing in poster printing services to spread the word throughout the community about the initiative.

According to the Mayor, the city is proud of its long relationship with E.L. Doctorow and hopes that this initiative will honor him, pay tribute to his talent, and be an inspiration for future generations.
