Students New Rochelle college named as Stanford fellows

The Hasso Plattner Institute of Design of Stanford University has inducted four students from Iona University in New Rochelle into the University Innovation Fellows program. This is a transformative program that provides students with the mindset and tools to create meaningful innovation and change in their academic communities.

The students are Lazar Paroski, a biology major; Alex Garces, a marketing and international business major; Sherly Baez; an entrepreneurship and marketing major; and Zhaire Moulterie, an entrepreneurship major. News of such achievements is often made known throughout a college campus and the community with flyer printing.

The students participate in an online training program lasting six weeks during which time they will learn how to analyze their ecosystems on campus and identify change related to creativity, design thinking, entrepreneurship, and innovation. Then they will apply this new perspective and knowledge to create new opportunities in education for their peers and serve as leaders and change agents at their schools and elsewhere.

The students in this program are looking to focus on first and second-generation students as well as international students. They want to establish an annual event that will bring the campus community together to celebrate inclusion and diversity to increase the sense of connectivity among students.

The associate director of the Hynes Institute, Lendynette Pacheco-Jorge, said this is a labor-intensive undertaking and the commitment of these students is truly remarkable.
