President of college in New Rochelle recognized
Seamus Carey, Ph.D., president of Iona University in New Rochelle, has been named as one the most influential figures in the region in the Hudson Valley Power 100 of City & State. This is the first year of this list which identifies the movers and shakers in the area from Ulster County to Westchester County in the state.
Announcements of such recognitions are often made known throughout a college campus and the community with flyer printing.
Carey has been the leader of Iona since 2019, and the editors of the publication noted that the university has been transformed under his direction. Cary oversaw the acquisition of the campus in Bronxville which spans 28 acres and created the NewYork-Presbyterian Iona School of Health Sciences in 2021.
This year he supervised the launch of the new campus of the university in Ireland. In addition, enrollment by new students has increased by 40 percent since 2019 at the university. These developments demonstrate how Iona transitioned from a college to a university under his administration.
Carey expressed his thanks to City & State for this recognition and congratulated all the others recognized in the list. He said it is rewarding to be recognized by many of the most influential leaders in politics, business, healthcare, and non-profit work as well as among his colleagues in higher education in the state.
