Plaza in downtown New Rochelle to undergo renovation

Construction is underway in New Rochelle on Anderson Plaza.

Located between LeCount Place and North Avenue, on Anderson Street, this will be a lively retail corridor and pedestrian plaza. The cost of the project is $4m, which comes from both private and public sources. Such sites often turn to banner printing to inform residents of projects and their potential benefits.

Major features of the Plaza will include temporary and permanent seating, bubbler play fountains, a retail kiosk, and seasonal landscaping. There will be a mix of local programming on the weekends that will range from retail pop-ups and outdoor festivals to farmers’ markets.

The project is being designed by Starr Whitehouse Landscape Architects and Planners, with L+M Development Partners and Wilder Balter as developers.

Noam Branson, Mayor of New Rochelle, said the renovation of Anderson Plaza is an example of how the downtown area of New Rochelle has become a hub for improvement and innovation. He said that as people can gather and celebrate in community spaces such as this one, the quality of life greatly improves, and this will bring entrepreneurs and businesses into the new space.

Laura Starr, a partner at Starr Whitehouse Landscape Architects and Planners, said that as Anderson Plaza creates welcoming social spaces and brings nature into the city, making New Rochelle more inclusive, livable, and healthy.
