New Rochelle transformed by addition of Fischer sculpture

R.M. Fischer, an internationally well-known artist, recently donated one of his sculptures to the New Rochelle Downtown Business Improvement District (BID).

The sculpture weighs 7.5 tons and resembles a futuristic gazebo or flying saucer with its lights powered by solar energy. It was originally located at the Sony Studios headquarters in Los Angeles. Fischer renamed the sculpture ‘Twilight of Dawn’, as it has been transformed, moving from a commercial plaza to a landscaped park in a community.

Noam Bramson, Mayor of New Rochelle, commented at the dedication of the sculpture that the city understands how an attractive and culturally vibrant city center can result from having public art. The R.M. Fischer will be a noteworthy addition to one of the busiest civic spaces in the city, he added.

Grants from the New Rochelle Industrial Development Agency (IDA) and Green Mountain Energy Sun Club went towards the transportation of the sculpture across the country, and towards its erection. The solar panels to light its interior and dome were outfitted by the Sun Club.

The installation of the sculpture was carried out by Bulfamante Landscaping and the solar panels by Croton Energy.
