As part of the Polar Plunge for a special competition, the Iona Prep “Plungers” from New Rochelle has become the team to raised the most money in New York State for the second year in a row.
During the annual Westchester Polar Plunge in November, $35,705 was raised by the team. The members were recently awarded with their third Cool School Challenge at a special presentation at the Upper School.
As a result of the money the team raised, 90 special athletes will be sponsored, and will be able to participate in 22 different special games and sports programs at no cost to them.
Since the Polar Plunge started in Westchester County nine years ago, the Iona Prep Plungers have been the top fundraisers among all participating schools in seven of those years.
An English teacher at Iona Prep, Pat Gray, runs the team and takes part in the Plunge as well. She said it is not so much the Plunge that is important, but that members of the team do a great deal to spread the word about this special athletic event and what it means for the athletes.
Banner printing companies can be hired to create displays in schools and the communities around them so that people learn more about fundraising efforts and achievements.
