New Rochelle police commissioner honored with special award

The Ellis Island Medal of Honor for 2016 will be given to Patrick J. Carroll, Police Commissioner of New Rochelle.

Over 86 years ago, the parents of Commissioner Carroll passed through the Great Halls of Ellis Island. Carroll commented that the award serves to validate the immigrants that came to this country, stating that without them, the country would not be what it is today.

Organizers say the Ellis Island Medals of Honor celebrates tolerance, diversity, brotherhood, and patriotism, as these attributes embody the spirit of the United States. Individuals who have been recognized with this award share their unique talents, courage, compassion, generosity, and knowledge with those who are less fortunate.

Founded in 1986, this year marks the 30th anniversary of the award and both Houses of Congress recognize it as one of the most prestigious in the country. Past honorees have included six Presidents of the United States and well-known and esteemed Americans, including Nobel laureate Elie Wiesel, Rosa Parks, Lee Iacocca, and Frank Sinatra.

The City of New Rochelle may want to celebrate this award to its Police Commissioner by hiring a banner printing company that can Print commemorative items, which can be strategically placed throughout the City.

The award will be presented to Commissioner Carroll at a special ceremony this Saturday, May 7.
