New Rochelle college renames residence hall

In recognition of the commitment of their leadership to the Iona Forever campaign and their generous support of the college, a campus residence hall that had previously been called South Hall has been renamed in honor of Alice Marie and Thomas E. Hales (’58, ’04H).

A ribbon cutting ceremony was recently held on the campus, located in New Rochelle, rededicating the facility as Hales Hall.

Joseph E Nyre, President of Iona College, commented that Mr. Hales is not only successful in business, but has been a philanthropist and has contributed his wisdom and time to numerous organizations. People on campus will now be able to associate the name with a person who also is part of the Iona spirit of generosity and service, Nyre added.

Mr. Hale earned a BBA in accounting from the college and owned and managed his own accounting firm for 17 years prior to leading Union State Bank in 1982.

An on-campus residence, Hales Hall is six stories in height and includes enhanced learning and living opportunities for its residents. Staff at the residence hall include a student resident assistant, a residence hall director, and student ministers.

The college might benefit from the assistance of a local printing company to spread news by Flyers and Posters about the renaming of the residence, and the many contributions of the Haleses to the college.
