New Rochelle college program receives funding

Iona University in New Rochelle has been awarded a grant of $1.5m over five years by the National Science Foundation (NSF).

The funds will help establish the Inspiring STEM Teachers to Reach Underserved Classrooms Together (INSTRUCT) programme.

The university will partner with Westchester Community College (WCC) to meet the important need for teachers of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) in underserved districts. Scholarships will be given to students in the INSTRUCT program so they can complete the last two years of their undergraduate work, and one year to complete the requirements for a master’s degree.

The INSTRUCT program is also designed to recruit transfer students from WCC into the field and attract additional STEM students. It will also provide academic enrichment, experiential learning opportunities, and other special services. Alumni from the program will also be offered mentorships and other support activities to help them develop and grow in the classroom.

Local Print shops can help with promoting such new programs throughout a region. They can supply Brochures, Flyers, Posters, and even Promotional Products to encourage students to take advantage of such programs.

Scholars from the program need to commit to teaching for two years on a full-time basis for every year of scholarship support they receive. Partner school districts of Iona will facilitate the process of monitoring the number of years students teach.
