The Murphy Green is now open on the campus of Iona College in New Rochelle.
Poster printing can be used to inform the college and surrounding community of such new spaces open on campus.
The green space, which spans close to 30,000 square feet, was made possible by a donation from alumnus Joseph M. Murphy and his late wife, JoAnn M. Murphy, who is also an alum and a trustee of the college. The space was designed by SLAM, an architectural firm, and built by the Consigli Construction Company. The focus is a large green lawn that has trees, a terrace area, walkways, and benches. Seating is built into East Hill, which allows for performances of all kinds and outdoor classes.
Seamus Carey, PhD, who is president of Iona College, said that this new green space is the result of the alignment of people and circumstances at the college. Carey added that this is the ideal way to continue the legacy Joseph Murphy established at the college, and to honor JoAnn Murphy. He expressed his gratitude for all their work.
Murphy said his family was committed to the environment, the arts, and student life at the college and so this green space showcases the many years of work of both him and his wife. He added that President Carey has transformed what was once a parking lot into a cornerstone of the campus.
