The New York State Higher Education Capital Matching Grant Program recently awarded a $1.062m grant to The College of New Rochelle for upgrading its facilities and programs for science education.
With this grant, the science facilities of the College will be able to be redesigned, rebuilt, and renovated, and fitted with new equipment. These renovations will enable the College to offer a new degree program in health and wellness and innovative general education programs, while also providing more research opportunities and enhancing academic programs that support biochemistry-related initiatives. Brochures that contain information about the updates can be prepared and given to schools in the area where they can be made available to students who are interested in applying to the College.
According to the President of The College of New Rochelle, Judith Huntington, the grant aligns with the strategic plan of the College to provide outstanding educational opportunities through the academic methods of the 21st Century. Being able to provide hands-on training with the latest laboratory technology and equipment, said Huntington, will enable the College to enhance its education for students in the liberal arts with more preparation in the STEM and health fields.
The funding matches capital grants for projects that enhance academic programmatic offerings. The College has already received a Federal allocation and private funds for the science facilities on the New Rochelle campus, so the total is now over $4m for the project.
