Grant given to be used for food service training

The Gannett Foundation recently awarded the Mental Health Association of Westchester a grant for $6,000 at an event held in Harrison, just a short distance from New Rochelle.

Awarded at the Journal News Media Group, a subsidiary of Gannett, the money will be used towards the organization’s food service training program, which is a 10-week program for people with mental health conditions who want to reenter the workforce. In this class, they learn essential cooking and culinary skills, safe food handling, nutrition, menu planning, and other skills needed so they can be successfully employed.

According to the CEO if the Mental Health Association of Westchester, Dr. Amy Kohn, this grant will enable the organization to purchase equipment needed for the training of food service that it would not otherwise be able to afford.

The mission of the Mental Health Association of Westchester is to promote mental health in Westchester County by means of community education, direct service, and advocacy. It provides those services needed by individuals with behavioral health concerns, including housing and wellness needs.

The Mental Health Association of Westchester may be turning to local Print companies to Print Flyers and other materials about this grant and the food service training program, so as to promote it to those looking to acquire a new skill to help them reenter the workforce.
