The federal Human Resources Service Administration has awarded Iona College in New Rochelle a $1.9m grant over a period of four years to give stipends to graduate students pursuing degrees in School Psychology or Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT).
The grant was given to Iona to focus on building competency in professional collaborative practice in the integrated health and mental care settings. Flyer printing is often used to announce the awarding of such grants throughout a college community.
Initially, 24 stipends of $10,000 were given to MFT and School Psychology students in their third year. The stipends will be given in two disbursements—there will be one awarded in the fall semester and the second at the beginning of the spring semester. Students need to use these funds for living expenses while attending college.
Project director and director of interprofessional education, Jeanne Matich-Maroney, Ph.D., expressed her thrill in bringing this news to graduate students as they return to classes this fall. She added that the grant will enable the college to enrich its curricula in School Psychology and MFT, prepare future behavioral health professionals for collaborative practice with underserved communities, and create new partnerships in the community.
Eventually, close to 112 students at the college could receive these funds in their last year if they remain in their respective programs.
