Graduate program receives reaccreditation

The master’s degree program in Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) of Iona University in New Rochelle has been reaccredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education (COAMFTE).

COAMFTE has reaccredited the program at Iona for a minimum of two years and a maximum of seven years. It is the national accrediting body responsible for ensuring the integrity and quality of graduate programs in MFT.

The MFT program at Iona is three years and focuses on social justice and self-of-the-therapist, which trains students to use themselves effectively in the relationship between themselves and their clients. Work in the classroom encompasses the first year while the second and third years enable students to work with clientele at field placement internships and at the Iona Family Therapy Center. Students interested in such programs often rely on brochure printing to provide more details about the requirements.

Program director of MFT at Iona, Christiana I. Awosan, said that the faculty and the staff in the program have been working hard to ensure that the training experience students undertake is strong and exceeds all expectations of the board. Awosan added that the focus is to strengthen the curriculum of the program and to continue in its integration of the latest COAMFTE teletherapy standards, and to expand the network of placements in this field for its students.
