Electric charging stations installed at New Rochelle college

The parking garage at Iona College in New Rochelle now has three new Level 1 electric vehicle charging stations.

These stations have been made possible by the Committee on Environmental Sustainability of the college and are available to all faculty, staff, and students who drive electric vehicles on campus.

Co-chair of the committee and assistant professor of psychology at Iona, Nilofer Naqvi, Ph.D., said that better air quality is the chief benefit of the use of electric vehicles, and they help to make the community a healthier place to live. Dr. Naqvi said colleagues had reached out to him about the possibility of offering these charging stations, so they immediately determined how to make them possible. He added that the committee was fully behind the idea as it understands the importance of supporting those who are interested in sustainability.

The charging stations were installed with the help of members of Facilities Management. Such campus departments often use flyer printing to provide more information about their resources.

These charging stations are part of the commitment of the committee to make a more sustainable campus at the college with community partnerships, academic opportunities, and greening projects. Co-chair for the Committee on Environmental Sustainability and assistant professor of biology, Christina Andruk, Ph.D., said that the plan is to eventually write a proposal form more high-powered charging stations on campus.
