The New Rochelle Council on the Arts and the Montefiore Medical Center have partnered to create an exhibit space for art, which will have its grand opening later this week.
The Queen City Gallery, located in the Administration Corridor on the first floor of the Montefiore New Rochelle Hospital, will provide a space for artists to exhibit their work and also enhance the environment for visitors, staff, and primarily patients.
President of the New Rochelle Council on the Arts, Theresa Kump Leghorn, commented that the council’s major endeavor is to bring more art into the community and the hospital has been a willing partner in that effort.
The gallery is part of a plan that was rolled out by the New Rochelle City Council at the end of last year to create an arts and cultural district and designate it an overlay zone. Already in the overlay zone are such spaces as the Media Loft artist residences, Charles Fazzino's pop art studio, and the Mahlstedt Gallery. The hospital falls within this zone.
The gallery will be opening on Friday, February 10 at 9:00 am and will feature Creative Visions, comprised of works by five local artists, as its first exhibit. The two organizations can look to poster printing companies to create item that can be displayed in the downtown area so that residents and visitors are made aware of the new gallery.
