A workshop on the Meaning and Development of the Therapeutic Relationship will be held in the Spellman Faculty Dining Room at Iona College in New Rochelle next month.
Featured at the workshop will be the work of Dr. Kelly G. Wilson. It will focus broadly on social connections in an evolutionary context and more specifically on the therapeutic relationship which has been recognized to be important in effective treatments. Suffering from serious psychological problems and having feelings of isolation or of not being heard or understood often can be social toxins.
The workshop will provide a guide to the therapeutic relationship from the perspective of acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT). It will present basic terms so that it will be understandable to those not familiar with ACT. Dr. Wilson will deepen participants’ understanding of ACT principles and enable them to employ these principles to create and enhance therapeutic connections. Printing services are often used to create materials from such workshops that participants can take away with them.
Those who are beginners using this therapy as well as more advanced ACT therapists will benefit from this workshop. The topics and skills covered in the workshop will be geared towards all human services including all aspects of mental and physical health care and education and management.
This workshop will run from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Friday February 7.
