The Month of Excellence in Scholarly and Creative Activities will be held by Iona College in New Rochelle this upcoming April.
During the month, accomplishments and achievements by faculty and
students in the performing arts, creative work across a variety of
disciplines, and Academic research will be shown through lectures,
presentations, performances, and other types of activities.
The month-long event was started 10 years ago as Iona Scholars Day by Sunghee Lee, Ph.D., Board of Trustees Endowed Professor of Chemistry. It originally was an opportunity for undergraduate students to share their scholarly activities with their peers and expanded in 2014 to include graduate students, given the professional level of the student presentations. The single day was further lengthened into a month-long event as the volume of scholarly activity has increased and students have been encouraged to participate and gain confidence in presenting their academic work.
The event also enables Iona students to prepare for the annual National Conferences on Undergraduate Research (NCUR), which promotes undergraduate research throughout the United States. It will be held at Kennesaw State University at which more than a dozen students from Iona will present.
Iona Scholars Day will be holding its 10th anniversary on April 9. On this day, faculty-mentored student work will be presented to the public. Poster printing can be used to inform the community of such events and encourage their attendance.
