Iona College in New Rochelle is starting a new Master of Science in Teaching (MST) program that will be cost and time effective for students and working professionals.
Coordinator of Graduate Education Programs and clinical senior lecturer at Iona College, Richard A. McMahon, said that the new MST in Adolescent Education can be completed in less than two years. The degree, along with its requirements for student teaching, now requires between 33 and 36 credits, which is a reduction in credits from the previously required 45 credits. This will enable students to save between $9,000 to $12,000 while taking the program. Professionals who want to transition into teaching can also select from among five specialties of math, English, Spanish, social studies, and biology.
Brochure printing companies can be hired for providing more details about such innovative programs for both informational and promotional purposes.
McMahon added that the demand for teachers in secondary education is increasing and this new program will provide students with the training and skills they need not only to be successful in the classroom, but to become leaders in the teaching profession too.
The Association for Advancing Quality in Educator Preparation (AAQEP) has accredited the MST program at Iona College. In addition, once completed, graduates will be able to earn the requisite teaching certification and have a smooth path into the classroom, McMahon said.
