Learning in Retirement at Iona College (LIRIC) in New Rochelle will be beginning its spring semester next month.
LIRIC is a nonprofit organization sponsored by the college and affiliated with the Road Scholar Institute Network. It enables lifelong learners to attend courses, special classes, and other activities. Members of the group and experts from the larger community teach the classes, with topics covering a wide range of cultural and academic topics, as well as financial, legal, or medical matters. LIRIC also plans trips to places of cultural interest. Membership in LIRIC is required for participation in its courses.
Print shops can be hired to create course Catalogs and membership applications for such organizations.
Next month, as part of its Film Series and the semester’s offerings, LIRIC will be presenting “The Two of Us,” a film directed by Claude Berri and produced in 1967. The film is part of the course, Bigotry on Film, and tells the story of an eight-year old Jewish boy who goes to live with the parents of his family’s Catholic friends during the Nazi occupation of Paris. The two develop a strong and affectionate bond, despite their entirely different religious and political beliefs.
The film will be shown at the Ryan Library Romita Auditorium on Friday, March 6, beginning at 2:30 pm.
