The annul Grand Prix Chess Tournament series will be held by the National Scholastic Chess Foundation, beginning in New Rochelle in a few days.
This is part of the organization’s chess competition series for children for the 2015 to 2016 season. The series will include 20 tournaments for students in grades kindergarten through 12.
According to Sunil Weeramantry, the Executive Director of the National Scholastic Chess Foundation, learning is one of the outcomes of competitive chess. Students not only learn the skills needed for chess but also about skills in life, as they have to perform in a public setting. Winning and losing gracefully are just two of the skills that they learn to deal with, says Weeramantry.
Researchers L.E. Allen and D.B. Main add that competitive chess tournaments promote mental alertness, challenge students of all levels, foster interest in the game, and encourage students to succeed at a high level. When a learning environment is focused around games, it has a positive effect on the attitude of students towards learning.
Various Promotional Products can be used by the National Scholastic Chess Foundation to encourage students of all grades to participate in this series, which can be both educational and fun and enables students to make new friends with those who also enjoy the game.
Columbus Elementary School in New Rochelle will host the first game on Saturday, November 7 from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.
