Stony Point is a few miles north of New City. Recently, Governor Kathy Hochul declared that 86 projects would receive roughly $110m to enhance the quality of water throughout the state. The funding is aimed at backing up initiatives that safeguard drinking water, address sources of harmful algal blooms, modernize deteriorating water systems, and enhance aquatic habitats in local communities across the state. The Town of Stony Point will utilize a $2.75m grant to substitute the bar screen, grit chamber, and influent pump station at their sewage treatment plant. The upgrades are intended to enable the plant to cope with increased flows during peak periods and minimize the occurrence of sanitary sewer overflows to the Hudson River. Governor Hochul’s stated goal is to ensure all New Yorkers have access to clean water for generations to come. She also said:
"We will continue upgrading New York’s aging infrastructure and strengthening our water security — improving the quality of life and public health of communities across the state."
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation oversaw the distribution of the $110 million in grants.
