A hiking event is being organized at a state park near New City to kick off the new year, and area residents are invited to lace up their boots and participate.
The First Day Hike & Festival 2026, which is being set up by Palisades Park Conservancy, has announced a hike and celebration for the first day of the year with the goal of helping area residents and other interested parties spend more time in nature. The event will pair hiking with live entertainment and warm beverages for a memorable start to the year.
The event will be family-friendly, and guests are welcome to bring friends and neighbors for a gathering of community and like-minded individuals. Hikers will have three recommended routes to choose from. Print shops can print and provide detailed maps to attendees at such events, improving the event experience and preventing hikers from getting lost.
The Old Hook Mountain Bathhouse will be open, offering a space to warm up and sip on hot cocoa and coffee. Live jazz will be performed by Pablo Lanouguere and Peter Einhorn. La Promenade will also be at the festival to offer treats for snacking.
The hike and festival will be held at Nyack Beach State Park in nearby Nyack. It’s scheduled for Thursday, January 1st, at 11:00 AM. Registration is free online.
