In July, a law was passed by the State of New York that makes it mandatory for schools to provide instruction in the field of mental health at all grades levels. Educators from Manhasset who would like to add to their knowledge of the field will be able to do so as part of a conference to be held in Greenvale this December.
Leaders for Change has sponsored the event, and it will feature keynote speakers Amy Molloy MSW, M.Ed. and Marc A. Brackett, PhD , both of whom are experts in the field of youth mental health. It is recommended for school social workers and psychologists, counselors, mental healthcare providers and classroom teachers, and building teams are highly encouraged to participate.
The attendees at the conference will walk away armed with information they can use to support the children and youth they work with. They will learn how to raise awareness of mental health issues and also how to create an environment that is supportive to those living with a mental illness. They will also review the updated guidelines that have been set by the state and find ways to introduce this topic into the curriculum.
Individual tickets for this symposium are being sold for $190 each, and a special discount is offered for groups of three or more. Workbooks, handouts and other resources for this type of function can be prepared by area Stationery printers.
The LIU Post Humanities Hall 119, which can be found at 720 Northern Boulevard in Greenvale, is the venue. More information about the function has been added to its online listing.
