Next month sees a landmark for a long-running celebration, as the 90th Annual Feast of San Gennaro commences.
It is expected that once again the streets of Little Italy, which is approximately 22 miles west of Manhasset, are going to be densely populated with supporters of the event. This will take place in the same neighborhood that was the home for thousands of Italian immigrants who came to America in hopes of making a new life for themselves.
The celebration is actually an effort to recognize early Italian immigrants’ faith and spirit. Over the years, the event has attracted over a million people from around the world who come to pay homage to the Patron Saint of Naples.
The celebration will take place over an 11-day time frame beginning on September 15, from 11:30 am until 11:00 pm. The festivities will continue through September 25, occurring at the same hours each day. There will be plenty to see, and many activities in which guests can participate. The celebration is widely known for its festive environment, its free musical entertainment, its ethnic food delicacies, and its parades, restaurants, and cafés. Vendors and floats might make use of Banners to highlight their cause or accent their presentation.
The center of the action will be the Festival Stage, which is located at the corner of Grand and Mott Streets.
