What's Happening in Island Park, NY…

Top chefs throw down this month

For the 6th year in a row, the SUMAQ Peruvian Food Festival will convene at the Cradle of Aviation Museum.

This festival will showcase the tasty wares of more than twenty exhibitors who are from New York and from Peru. At the festival, top chefs will prepare Peruvian cuisine, as well as providing live demonstrations for the audience.

As the Quechua name of the festival implies, the event will last for two days. On those days the main attraction will be the delicacies of Peruvian culture. Those interested in Peruvian cuisine, which is growing in popularity, will get to see, hear about, and come to understand how ancient Incan cooking and traditions filtering through from Spain, Japan, and Africa have all come together to create this unique cuisine. Chefs seeking to further promote their talents or business might benefit from custom business cards, as Peruvian cuisine continues to gain interest around the world.

Award-winning Peruvian chefs will be present, such as Javier Olano, Juana Cuno, Juan Talledo, Magaly Silva, and Jesus Manuel Gutarra. The event will take place just 10 miles north of Island Park on Saturday, August 13 and Sunday, August 14. The hours on both days will be from 10:00 am until 8:00 pm. Adult tickets are $15 in advance or $20 at the door, while children’s tickets (aged 2-12), are $7 in advance or $10 at the door.
