There are several species of butterflies in North America that migrate, and one of the best known will be the subject of an online presentation.
ReWild Long Island has organized a webinar that will be all about monarchs and how they survive. The public in Island Park can lend them a helping hand, and certified Monarch Butterfly Conservationist Ellen Federico will share her knowledge with those who log in.
The presentation will cover how monarchs make their annual migrations, and Ellen will review the plants they use as food sources, both as caterpillars and adults. The audience will find out why Long Island and Fire Island are so important to these butterflies on the eastern flyway, and also how scientists track their routes. Everyone will learn why planting native species of milkweed matters, and when they head for home, they can share their new knowledge with others so that even more people can participate in helping these long distance Flyers in their own garden.
Online presentations allow an organization to reach a wide audience, and people can attend for the comfort of their own home. Visual learning materials for an activity can be crafted by a banner printing company.
Island Park gardeners, property owners, business and anyone else who would like to get the inside scoop on how they can help monarch butterflies survive will be hosted on March 12th. A registration link can be found on the ReWild Long Island website.
