Island Park makes way for Memorial Day parade

The Village of Island Park will be giving its veterans a hearty salute with its annual Memorial Day parade.

The yearly activity lets former military members know their community stands behind them while also honoring the fallen, and this year's Grand Marshal will be James W. Ruzicka Sr. James is a Navy veteran and former IPFD Chief and mayor, and he has invited everyone interested to register to take part.

The parade will include an assortment of marchers, including schools, scouts and other youth groups, and sports teams, and they will line up on Waterford Road next to Masone Beach at 9:30 am. It will depart from the staging area at 10:00 am sharp, and once it has followed its set route to Memorial Monument, a ceremony will take place. Kids are invited to join in the spirit of the occasion and can decorate their bicycles to ride. The judge’s top picks will receive a prize.

When preparing to march in a parade, community groups may choose to order Banners and Signs to carry. These can be custom prepared by area banner printing companies.

The Village of Island Park’s Memorial Day Parade will take to the streets on Thursday, May 23. The final date to register is May 18, and this can be done via the Village of Island Park website.
