Long Beach will host its 31st Robert C. McAvoy Labor Day Run in September. This run is an annual Long Beach tradition, and locals from nearby communities like Island Park are welcome to participate.
Participants will run a five-mile to mark the end of summer. Runners will start the race at Laurelton Boulevard and will traverse a set course down the boardwalk. Afterwards, awards will be given to the top three female and male finishers in their age group, with additional medals given to top overall female and male runners. Also, for the first time, awards will be given to the top male and female runners with physical disabilities. After the race, participants can also stop by the beach and relax for free by showing their race number.
On the day of the race, participants can pick up their race T-Shirts before the run starts. Such T-shirts typically feature a unique graphic design to commemorate the event.
The run will take place on September 6th at 8:00 AM. Participants can find the race starting location at 98 Laurelton Boulevard, and t-shirt pick-ups will be available between 6:30 AM and 7:30 AM. Registration before September 3rd is $30 per person, while tickets bought on race day are $40. Anyone in need of more information can call Long Beach’s Recreation Center at 431-3890.
