Residents in Island Park and the areas surrounding Long Beach are getting ready for the 15th Annual Cabaret Festival.
The five-day event features talented singers and musicians in an exploration of American music tradition.
The performances are put together by Artists in Partnership, a local nonprofit group with the goal of empowering artists and engage the community. The group works to bring a variety of artistic media to the area, including literary, visual, music, and performing arts. The cabaret is one of a number of events they sponsor every year.
The festival is a celebration of the genre of cabaret and its place in American History. As such, there are several educational seminars and presentations throughout the event, including a look back at the last 15 years of cabaret festivals, a panel discussion with several notable artists and musicians, and a presentation titled ‘The Great American Songbook in Every Age’.
Musical guests include singer-songwriter Pamela Lewis, Broadway performer Nicolas King, and up and coming jazz singer Veronica Swift. Visitors to the festival will receive a booklet printing with a full program and lineup.
The Cabaret Festival will be held from May 17 to 21 at the Long Beach Public Library, located at 111 West Park Ave. Attendance is free to the public. Anyone looking for more information should visit the website.
