After a winter of dreaming and planning, it is almost time for Island Park gardeners to get planting, and an upcoming workshop will make sure they have the basic knowledge needed to find success.
The Mineola Memorial Library offers the community an assortment of learning opportunities and its “Wake up your Garden” workshop will be focused on getting beds ready for springtime planting. It will address the issues from the ground floor on up, and is a presentation of the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Nassau County.
During the activity, the attendees will learn about a variety of topics related to the home landscape. These include the importance of soil testing, the basics of lawn care, how mulching can lead to healthy plants, and watering. Various species and cultivars will be reviewed, and cultivating spring bulbs is on the agenda as well. Both library card holders and the general public are invited to sign up for this event.
Many of those who attend horticulturally themed workshops appreciate receiving items such as plant care tip sheets, and these may be produced by local Stationery printers.
This opportunity for Island Park gardeners to hit the ground running in 2022 will be held on Monday, April 4, starting at 6:30 pm. The venue for the function can be found at 195 Marcellus Road in Mineola.
