An activity that will introduce kids to the many ways their feathered friends have adapted to their environment has been organized by an Island Park area not-for-profit.
The Environmental Education and Resiliency Center offers a wide variety of programs that educate the public about the natural world, and one of its offerings planned for March will be all about birds and how they have adapted to many different ecological niches. Reservations must be made to participate, and parents are asked to have their child on site 10 minutes ahead of the activity’s scheduled start time.
During the workshop, which lasts an hour and a half, the attendees will discover how birds' bodies (including their bones and other inner physiology) and behavior have all adapted to suit the environment they inhabit. They will also make their own feathered friend to show.
The organizers of the function noted that they will be happy to provide the Center’s schedule to anyone who provides their email address. Hard copy versions of agendas, Calendars, and other marketing materials may be prepared by area Stationery printers.
This introduction to the avian world will be offered on March 5 at 880 Lake Drive West in Hempstead. There is no additional fee to participate, and the function will begin at 10:30 am. The final date to sign up is February 4.
