Island Park area venue to offer historic cookery class

An Island Park area historic site that has been famed for the past 325 years has a demonstration in the works to show how cooking was done during the early part of the state’s history.

The Queens County Farm Museum offers the public an opportunity to take a step back in time, and it has planned a demonstration of open hearth cooking. This will take place in the site’s historic farmhouse, and 18th-century recipes will be prepared.

The listing for the experience noted that, for planning reasons, advance registration is required and IDs will be checked. The facilitator for the session will be Chris Lord-Barry, who has many years of experience with early American cookery. She will prepare food using ingredients and tools that would have been common use in the 1800s, and everyone will be going home with Copies of the recipes that have been adapted for the modern kitchen.

Workshops give members of the public a chance to both learn and try their hand at some new skills. Stationery printers will be able to supply Copies of recipes as well as any other handouts needed for an event.

This introduction to the art and science of 18th-century hearth cooking will be taking place near Island Park on November 19. Queens County Farm Museum can be found at 73-50 Little Neck Parkway in Floral Park.
