The Jones Beach Nature Center provides the public with many ways to learn about and interact with the natural world, and it has made plans to host a special event just for educators.
This Island Park area venue has plans in the works for its Teacher’s Workshop, which will take place in mid-February. This Teachers’ Academy will offer an immersive experience, and those who participate will be walking a mile in their students’ shoes.
The group will discover how they can make the best use of the site for their pupils and incorporate nature-based activity into their lesson plans. They will find out how its exhibits and activities related to ecology, environmental design, and coastal resilience can be made kid friendly. Registrants who complete the class may qualify for continuing teacher and leader education (CTLE) hours. A fee of $4 each is being charged to the attendees.
Even educators can benefit from a learning activity. Handouts, promotional Pens and other materials for an event can be crafted by a local printer to reinforce the message that learning never stops.
The Jones Beach Energy & Nature Center will be running its Teacher’s Academy on Thursday, February 16. It will be kicking off at 9:00 am, and any area educators interested in joining in the fun are asked to register now.
